The location of your adsense ads can make a huge difference in the click through rates. Make sure that you are putting adsense above the fold, this is the part of your site that is visible without having to scroll down. However this does not mean that all you see is ads above the fold because that can turn off many of your visitors.

Instead add a link unit and maybe a 234x60 half banner ad unit above the fold. This way you get to have ads above the fold without it looking like you are flooding your site with ads. Also you can place ads directly in your content and ideally towards the center of the page as this part of the page tends to get the most attention.

Of course, make sure the ads do not have borders and also the link color should match the general link color of your site. Another good tip to follow is to ensure that you are using the channel tracking feature so you can know which ad positions are working best. When placing ads directly into an article have the article content wrap around the ads. You can accomplish this easily using html tables.

Another good positioning tip is to put some ads at the end of the page as this will give your visitors a place to go once they are done reading your content. You can place a 336x280 ad unit followed by a 468x15 link unit towards the bottom of the page. You are now allowed 3 link units on any content rich page although I think 2 is often enough and 3 can seem like a bit too much.
